didn't Biden say something about Obama, like how nice it was that a clean-looking black guy was running for president?

He's a smart guy but he says a lot of stupid things, and plagiarizes and all that.

An intriguing choice, wonder if it'll hurt more than it'll help.

I'm not either, just think it's interesting.

...and I'm praying there's no Romney anywhere near this election, but it might be too late for that.

It's a good choice for Obama because he can appeal to the "white collar" voters a bit better (at least the reatrded polls everyone listens to say that, it's probably bs) and he has a ton of foreign policy experience which is always what McCain hammers away at Obama for (other than for being more popular than him). And i like a lot of Biden's views from a couple of years ago when I started paying attention to him, it's just that, like Brett pointed out, he says a lot of shit off the cuff and might get the Dems in trouble. And yes he said that "clean white" thing about Obama, but hey, I'm pretty happy with the decision and it only bolsters my support for this team.
stubby43
stubby43 on Aug 23 '08 at 7:02pm
Honnestly? I disagree picking someone with alot of forign policy experience is a bad move because its something the mc cain camp can critise its admitting a weakness.

FRICKINAWESOME
FRICKINAWESOME on Aug 23 '08 at 7:23pm
Like lemonalle says, he's making up for something he has less experience in. I want someone who's willing to admit they have short-comings, but do the things neccassary to remedy that. So there's no hiding the fact that Obama doesn't have extensive foriegn policy experience, but surrounding yourself with smart people who do is a good step.

I'm not saying its a bad decision if he gets elected what I'm saying is that it'll hurt his chances of getting elected.

I've not been following the election that much but I've seen bits and bobs on digg and it looks like Mc cain is already getting pretty desperate for example the odd decision to accuse Obama as being rich when any idiot could of told him that it was going to bite him on the arse unless Mc cain forgot he was rich.

i think it's a brilliant choice. and anyone who tries to make it seem negative that obama picked someone to cover his weaknesses is a fucking idiot. i guarantee you mccain will pick someone who's good with the economy because mccain doesn't know shit about that.
FRICKINAWESOME
FRICKINAWESOME on Aug 23 '08 at 8:19pm
Stubbs, I don't remember anyone accusing Obama of being rich? Maybe i missed that, but i know McCain has been putting out ads about Obama being a celebrity more than a candidate, which is basically a negative way of saying he's way more popular than mcCain by MCain's own admission. It's ludicrious, just like MCain mocking Obama for saying what he did about properlyinflating your tires when everyone agrees that is a factual and very good tip for saving money on gas. So far every attack by McCain's camp has been calous and mean-spirited, the exact things McCain said he wouldn't stand for with this election run. Of course, Obama starting to hit back hard too, something I'm happy he's standing up for himself with and concerned he might go a bit too far down that road...Republicans LOVE pulling you into the slime bath with them, because everyone gets dirty in the process. I'm not trying to diss all Republicans with that statement, it's just a trend I've noticed in most of their fighting styles.

Bri, maybe he'll pick someone who knows how to surf the internet too, eh?

The guy who used to babysit me wrote a book about Obama that seriously disillusioned me. Now I kinda think he's an asshole. (I can't imagine even in my wildest dreams that the guy who babysat me when I was five would make shit up or anything. Disillusioned, man.)

FRICKINAWESOME

Nope, it's his gigantic possibly presidential balls littlem, filled to the brim with hopeful blasts of steaming hot change in the face of America!

Daddydom, I find it kind of amazing how jaded people are on Threadless about both sides so hardcore to the point that both choices we have been given for views of where america should head seem the same or are completely and utterly full of shit. Ever since the 2004 election when I listened to Obama speak both at the convention and afterwards in various smaller interviews when he was just a hard-working senator, I found myself drawn to what he had to say and his thoughts on bringing america back together and having a positive, but REALISTIC, look on America's future. Of all the candidates I have seen and been disappointed by in my time of voting, none have given me so much hope at the possibility of good things happening and moving on towards to the better if a certain person or thought process would come into office. I don't think he's going to have a complete re-invention of how our society functions or how America is going to be seen by the rest of the world or can totally take us from a declining superpower to a completely resilient one again, but I think he can be the first of hopefully many who can grab us from the edge of the quicksand that America is that only has the top of its head above it, and reach into the muck and pull the country out long enough for it to breathe and hopefully grab for the branch being held out to it. Obama is a smart man with a worldy mind who has surrounded himself with other smart people, and that's half the battle right there. I don't mind that he doesn't have a lot of experience in some of these matters, that's what makes him possibly play by his own rules and not just go along with the standard quo of how to conduct such policies. Shake the shit up man, how the system is being run hasn't been working for a long time and it's time to allocate the zillions of dollars we pay every year in taxes to things that will actually help out the country on the whole. I think Obama from what i've heard and read of him understands all that.

also, i think he has somewhat of a decent moral compass, and i don't mean in the religious sense, but actually doing things for the good of the nation and not just the one percent, looking and accessing all the facts and not what would make him look the best but instead doing what is right. We'll get a more concrete, very detailed look at his policies come the debates very very soon, but this is how i feel about him and the way he has conducted himself as of yet. Is he elitist? I don't fucking care, he BETTER be better and smarter than most of us if he wants to pull off shit like energy independence and fixing all the holes in our economy. Instead of Bush talking down to us and doing what's in the country's worst interest, how about someone trying to talk up to us, someone trying to challenge us to rise to the occasion and do what's best for everyone?

And stuff.
DaddyDom
DaddyDom on Aug 24 '08 at 2:30am
holy christ, did you cut and paste that or write it all right now.
parasitemite
parasitemite on Aug 24 '08 at 2:32am
i like how he doesn't want to solve our problems through threats like america has in the past. we have to get past that... we can't bully countries like russia that are doing the same thing that we are.... we can't control the world.
DaddyDom
DaddyDom on Aug 24 '08 at 2:34am
so, as i read it, he talks pretty and makes you feel good.

This is wonderful for a personal therapist, but perhaps not the best basis for choosing the leader of a nation.

as a decent moral compass, you are right in one way, in my opinion. A compass needle tends to swing in many directions depending upon the movements of those holding it. He seems to point in many directions as well.

Also, McCain used to be a maverick when he was going against his own party to speak up for what he truly believes, but all that changed when he saw a possibility to be the head of his party. Seriously, if you wanna talk flip-flopping, I have rarely if ever seen this much about-face from previous prinicples as McCain has done, it's staggering, even from things he said a few months ago. I don't Obama has done anywhere near the amount of this practice, from what i've seen only in campaign finance/public finance (and he'd be a fool to give up the insanely large amount of money he has already raised), and a small about-face on off-shore drilling (which he only said he'd "possibly" go along with if other options were exhausted and compromises were reached).

Do you think one man holds our nation? It's who hes chooses.. and obviously they can break the constitution as Bush's cabinet has (hiring people based on political affiliation)... we can also break the constitution when we see fit... ITS OK!!! i love REPUBS! : ))))

FRICKINAWESOME
FRICKINAWESOME on Aug 24 '08 at 2:41am
I just wrote all of that. And that isn't what i meant daddydom, but you can summarize what i said however you'd like. It isn't about him talking pretty, it's that he says things about the country and what needs to be fixed that i agree with and the mindset he has is something I think is right for this country. It isn't that he makes me feel good, it's that he makes me feel that he can accomplish the things that I think this country needs to do: become independant on energy (he has talked extensively about this issue, even though McCain realizes this needs to be done as well and has also mentioned it), ending the war in Iraq (maybe not as drastic a pull-out as Obama first mentioned, but he is on the right track way more than McCain's feeling about still "winning" the war which is the terminology he has used even very recently), restoring America's standing with the rest of the world and how we conduct our foriegn policies with both peaceful and violent regimes (again, Obama seems more willing and logical about these policies), and I like his idea on universal healthcare more and I can't wait to hear what he plans on doing with the national budget.

So these feelings aren't the simplified things you are kind of making them out to be from me Daddy my good man, but im glad you agree on the moral compass part of what i wrote! I can write a whole ton when im damned passionate about what im writing! lol.
